ECO RIVER ADVENTURES - Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods

Events benefit EcoRiver Adventures, a program of EcoRing and Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods
(A portion of the fees may be tax deductible)

EcoRing is a community based nonprofit revitalization program that protects and celebrates the Russian River ecosystem while respecting the needs and views of the entire community. The goal is to stimulate the local economy while safeguarding our natural wonders.

Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, a nonprofit organization supports the preservation of the State Parks in the Russian River District through education and stewardship programs.

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS WITH LUNCH & BBQ DINNER
Armstrong/Austin Creek & Sonoma Coast State Parks


(Limited to 20 participants, register by July 25th) Take photographs of seals and birds at the mouth of the beautiful Russian River; flowers and nature shots along the river; majestic coastal redwoods in Armstrong Redwoods; finish with sunset and moonrise photos overlooking the Armstrong Reserve in the Austin Creek wilderness with nature photographer, Chuck Honek. No experience necessary. Bring any type of camera for individual instruction.
$100 per person, Includes lunch and BBQ dinner in the park

Meet in Jenner in the boat launch area.  A great opportunity to see brown pelicans, blue heron, egrets,  osprey fishing, harbor seals, and many other birds. No experience necessary, instruction provided. Reservations required. Kayak rental information available upon request. Beginners welcome.

(EASY) Take a walk back in time and learn about the fascinating geology and history of Sonoma Coast as well as State Park Archeologist Breck Parkman’s theory about the Mammoth Rubbing Rocks. Bring water and a snack.

August 25 Eco Tour Of The Kunde Estate With Jeff Kunde
Wine Education: Fourth Generation Winegrower Jeff Kunde will lead Eco Tours that climb from the Sonoma Valley floor up 1400' through the vineyards and into the Mayacamas Mountains, concluding with a wine tasting and gourmet lunch overlooking Sonoma Valley. August 25 How Have Ishi and The Kennewick Man Changed the Face of This Debate?
Lecture: During the whirlwind era of termination many California Indian Rancherias became things of the past. In a landmark case, Tillie Hardwick v. United States, one Pomo woman restored the sovereign status of 16 tribes. CIM honors Ms.Hardwick's dedication and contributions to all California Indians in this lecture series. JENNER ESTUARY BIRDING PADDLEMeet at the Visitor Center in Jenner for an interesting bird identification presentation by State Park docent Mary Follis, then join WaterTreks for a paddle around the beautiful Russian River estuary. WILLOW CREEK DOCENT LED HIKES WITH STEWARDS

Meet less then 1 mile down Freezeout Road just west of the town of Duncans Mills off Moscow Road. Stewards and LandPaths are partnering to provide public access on this incredible new State Park acquisition on Sonoma Coast State Park. The purchase of this magnificent 3,373 acres of redwood forests and grassy meadows with coastal views was made possible through the efforts of the Trust for Public Land, the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, the California Coastal Conservancy, the Wildlife Conservation Board and California State Parks. Come on out to see and enjoy this property first hand. Learn about the flora, fauna,history and become acquainted with the recreational opportunities that will be available in the future. By Arrangement Whale Watching at Bodega Head - January through May at Bodega Head in Bodega Bay
By Arrangement Seal Watching at Goat Rock State Beach - Come visit Sonoma Counties largest harbor seal rookery at the Russian River mouth. Docents are available on the weekends from March through August.
By Arrangement Tidepooling on Sonoma Coast - There are many tidepool beaches on Sonoma Coast. Docents are available for special school group education programs. Call for a free tidebook and the days and times when roving naturalist docents are availalble to educate park visitors about how to enjoy the tidepools without destruction.
By Arrangement Docent led tours at Armstrong Redwoods - Docents are available for special redwood ecology school group tours as well as adult group tours. Call early to schedule as the spring months are very busy.
By Arrangement Willow Creek watershed education program - A curriculum education program is available on a first come first serve basis in the Willow Creek watershed for school groups. The program includes a classroom visit and field activities.
By Arrangement Customized interpretive activities and hikes at Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve, Austin Creek State Recreation Area, or Sonoma Coast State Park can be arranged through the Stewards office. Topics include: Whale Watching, Seal Watching, Tidepools, Wildflowers, Plant Identification, Shorebirds, and Redwood Ecology.
